BCP Libraries Brimming with Activities This June!
BCP Libraries are set to host a diverse range of engaging events throughout June, offering something for everyone from literary enthusiasts and history buffs to families and those seeking community connection. The month is packed with special celebrations, regular clubs, and unique one-off sessions across various branches.
Thematic Celebrations and Special Events:
June is a month of special focus at BCP Libraries, kicking off with Pride Month book displays available in all libraries, promoting inclusivity and diverse voices. From 1st to 15th June, Hi-Vis Fortnight will celebrate library services dedicated to blind and partially sighted individuals.
Gardening takes centre stage with Community Roots: a Gardening Celebration in Broadstone, featuring “Unearthed: The Power of Gardening” from the British Library Living Knowledge Network. This also includes a celebration of 120 years of gardening with the Broadstone Horticultural Society (1905-2025) and a look at the “History of Broadstone in Bloom”.
Highlights of the Month’s Programme:
- For the Curious Mind:
- On Wednesday, 4th June, Bournemouth Library will host “Aspects of History – Poole Museum: our Museum Journey” from 11 AM to 12 PM.
- Highcliffe Library will feature a talk titled “Top Hats, a Bundle of Towels & a Quaker man who built a church in Boscombe” on Wednesday, 4th June, from 2 PM to 3 PM.
- Broadstone Library offers a fascinating talk on “Potter around Pots” with a local resident discussing 1930s ceramics and female potters on Wednesday, 11th June, from 2 PM to 3 PM.
- Author Lorraine Gibson will be at Castlepoint Library on Monday, 9th June, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM for “Walking in Memphis with Elvis”.
- Author G.J. Minett will be at Poole Library on Tuesday, 10th June, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM to discuss his novels.
- A “Potted History of Broadstone” will be presented by Colin on Friday, 13th June, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, sharing local legends and historical facts.
- Creekmoor Library will host “A Trip through the Canadian Rockies” with John Butler, a photo travelogue, on Friday, 20th June, from 2 PM to 3 PM.
- Community and Support:
- Canford Heath Library will have a visit from Heather, a community support worker from the Dorset Blind Association, to show and discuss various visual impairment aids on Thursday, 5th June, from 10 AM to 12 PM.
- Ensbury Park Library is holding a Volunteers Afternoon Tea on Friday, 6th June, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM, where you can learn about local volunteering opportunities.
- Christchurch Library will continue its weekly Coffee morning every Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM.
- Community Action Network (CAN) Information Stations will be available at Branksome Library on Friday, 13th June, and Friday, 27th June, from 10 AM to 12 PM, to help connect you with local voluntary and community services.
- Springbourne Library will host a free drop-in Covid-19 vaccination clinic on Thursday, 12th June, from 10 AM to 12:45 PM.
- Boscombe Library will have a Speech and Language Drop-in Session for Parents/Carers of Under 5s on Wednesday, 18th June, from 11 AM to 12 PM.
- For Families and Children:
- Broadstone Library will host a “Gnome colouring competition” until 14th July with a chance to win a special prize.
- Various Lego Clubs will be running throughout the month at Ensbury Park, Christchurch, Southbourne, and Rossmore libraries.
- West Howe Library will have a Chess & Lego Club every Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
- Winton Library offers Chess Coaching for ages 7-11 every Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
- Family Board Games drop-in and play sessions will be available at Charminster Library on Saturday, 14th June, from 10 AM to 12 PM.
- Rossmore Library will have an Empathy Day Festival treasure hunt and activities until 14th June.

- Writers Haven at Westbourne Library on Tuesday, 3rd June, from 12 PM to 2 PM.
- Board game club at Southbourne Library on Tuesday, 3rd June, from 5 PM to 5:45 PM.
- Craft & puzzle group at Canford Heath Library every Thursday from 10 AM to 12 PM.
- Thursday Reading Club at West Howe Library on Thursdays from 2 PM to 5 PM.
- Art Club at Ensbury Park Library every Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM.
- Poetry for Pleasure (adult group) at Creekmoor Library on Friday, 13th June, from 2 PM to 3 PM.
- Knitting Group at Ensbury Park Library on Tuesday, 17th June, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM.
- Reading Aloud group at Tuckton Library on Monday, 30th June, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM.
