What’s Happening at Your BCP Libraries This May!

Line-up of events at your local BCP Libraries.

Spring is in full swing, and so is the exciting line-up of events at your local BCP Libraries! From historical displays to creative crafting sessions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout May. Have a look at what’s on offer:

Explore Local History & Heritage All Month Long:

  • Local and Community History Month displays: Discover fascinating insights into our local past at various libraries throughout May.
  • British Library exhibition: Unearthed: the power of gardening: Head to Christchurch Library to explore this captivating exhibition.
  • Writer’s Trail display: Visit Broadstone Library to delve into the world of local authors.
  • VE Day – Local Heritage display: Commemorate VE Day with a special display at Bournemouth Library.

Fun for the Little Ones:

  • The Great Tail Trail: This exciting trail continues at Boscombe, Bournemouth, Castlepoint, and Christchurch libraries – perfect for adventurous young readers!
  • Children’s Craft Activities based on the Maypole: Join the fun at Christchurch Library on Saturday, May 3rd (10 am – 4 pm).
  • Children’s VE DAY drop-in colouring activities: Christchurch Library also offers these on Saturday, May 3rd (10 am – 4 pm).
  • Star Wars crafting drop-in session: Get creative at Charminster Library on Saturday, May 3rd (10 am – 12 pm).
  • Drop in Mermaids and Under the Sea craft: Dive into imaginative crafting at Bournemouth Library (date not specified, check with the library).
  • Drop-in Pirate crafts: Ahoy, mateys! Head to Canford Cliffs Library from Tuesday, May 27th to Friday, May 30th for some pirate-themed fun.
  • Fishy Fun – crafts to make on an ocean theme: Get hooked on crafting at Charminster Library from Tuesday, May 27th to Saturday, May 31st.
  • Drop in Elmer fun: Enjoy some colourful crafting at Winton Library from Tuesday, May 27th to Saturday, May 31st.
  • Nature Makers – create your own nests and webs: Get in touch with nature at Upton Country Park with the Broadstone Library team on Wednesday, May 28th (10 am – 11:30 am). This is ideal for ages 5-8, but all are welcome.
  • Angry Birds – stories and crafts for under 7s: Join the fun at Charminster Library on Thursday, May 29th (2 pm – 3 pm).
  • Lego Dinosaurs – story, songs and Lego challenge: Calling all mini paleontologists! Head to Tuckton Library on Thursday, May 29th (2 pm – 3 pm) for ages 2 to 12.
  • Sea creature suncatchers – for over 5s: Create beautiful suncatchers at Highcliffe Library on Thursday, May 29th (12 pm – 4 pm).

Special Events & Activities:

  • VE 80 Day Afternoon Tea: Celebrate this important anniversary at Winton Library on Thursday, May 1st (2:30 pm – 3:30 pm). Please book at the library.
  • Meet your Councillor – Peter Cooper: Chat with your local councillor at Hamworthy Library on Friday, May 2nd (10 am – 12 pm).
  • Win on Waste: Learn about reducing waste at Bournemouth Library on Saturday, May 3rd (10 am – 12 pm).
  • Aspects of History Talk – St. Michael’s Loft: Christchurch’s Unique Tudor Room: Discover local history at Bournemouth Library on Wednesday, May 7th (11 am).
  • ‘Bring a Book’ bookgroup. Share your favourite books: Join fellow book lovers at Boscombe Library on Wednesday, May 7th (3 pm – 4 pm).
  • National Hedgerows Week, display and activities: Explore the importance of hedgerows at Broadstone Library from Tuesday, May 6th to Saturday, May 10th.
  • Family History Society drop-in: Delve into your family history at Canford Heath Library on Thursday, May 8th (10 am – 1 pm).
  • VE Day Display: Visit Christchurch Library from Thursday, May 8th to Friday, May 23rd for a special VE Day exhibition.
  • VE Day celebration – singalong with PUPS ukulele group: Enjoy a celebratory singalong at Canford Heath Library on Friday, May 9th (11:15 am – 12:15 pm).
  • Poetry Club to meet at Upton Country House: For poetry enthusiasts, the club meets at Upton Country House on Friday, May 9th (10:30 am) from Creekmoor Library.
  • Welcome all ‘Kinson Krafters’ for a fun treasure hunt, activity sheets & drop in craft: Get crafty at Kinson Library (date not specified, check with the library).
  • Local History meeting: Explore local history further at Winton Library on Tuesday, May 27th (2:30 pm – 3:30 pm).
  • Talk: ‘Found and Ground’ How to make Natural Paints. Demo and chance to have a go: Get creative with natural paints at Boscombe Library on Wednesday, May 28th (3 pm – 4:30 pm).
  • Drop-in: Make a whale: Create your own whale at Castlepoint Library from Wednesday, May 28th to Saturday, May 31st.
  • Pottery painting for over 5s (there will be a charge for this event): Get artistic at Ensbury Park Library on Thursday, May 29th (2:30 pm – 4 pm). Please note there is a charge for this activity.
  • ★ Biscuit decorating for National Biscuit Day!: Celebrate with some tasty decorating at Poole Library on Thursday, May 29th (11:30 am – 12:30 pm).
  • Basket weaving for children: Learn a new skill at Parkstone Library on Friday, May 30th (10:30 am – 12 pm) and Saturday, May 31st (10:30 am – 12 pm).
  • Make a spring wreath: Embrace the season by making a spring wreath at Canford Heath Library on Friday, May 30th (2:30 pm – 4 pm).

Please Note: Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 5th and Monday, May 26th for the Bank Holidays.

Booking is required for some events, so please contact the relevant library for more information and to secure your spot.
